THE KALINAGO TRIBAL NATION OF DOMINICA (CARIBBEAN) MOURNS THE LOSS OF ONE OF IT'S BELOVED MATRIARCHS

Granny Frederick of the Kalinago Tribal Nation of Dominica

THE KALINAGO TRIBAL NATION MOURNS THE LOSS OF ONE OF IT'S BELOVED MATRIARCHS
I flew to Dominica today to pay my last respects to Granny Frederick - the only Kalinago Granny I knew for over 2 decades....she was the mother of my bro Jacob Frederick (the father of Kalinago Cultural Revival at CARIFESTA), and grandmother of his sons Che & Samudi, and his daughters Deborah, Hyacinth, Merguli and Kamisha - all of whom I have known since they were children..
Jacob was devastated at his mothers death the day before Christmas Eve 2016, but was unable to be at the funeral today because he is in another country and could not get a flight home in time.
The older of the 2 Catholic priests at the service for his mother said he wished he could have seen Jacob (as he is Jacob's God-father), and apart from being one of the OLDEST Kalinagos (at 95) - Granny Frederick was the ONLY Kalinago mother to have TWO sons that became Chiefs of the Kalinago People...His Excellency Chief Masclem Frederick and His Excellency Chief Faustulus Frederick (who helped negotiate Dominica's Independence from the UK) ...how proud she must have been to see what great 3 sons of the Kalinago Nation she brought into this world - at a time when they were needed most!
My flight arrived an hour later than expected (LIAT) so I got to the funeral a bit late, perhaps halfway, so I stood outside with His Excellency Chief Irvince Auguiste (another brother from another mother of mine & who's wife was a God-daughter of Granny Frederick) - who collected me at the airport, and another former Chief His Excellency Garnet Joseph was also there, both of these former Chiefs of this mighty Tribal Nation came to show their respects for a mighty mother of their Tribal Nation.
Chouboutouiba Cozier Frederick must have seen us outside and sent someone to bade us to enter the Church and take seats among the gathered kinsmen & women - so I went inside and sat next to two Kalinago grandfathers.....I was touched when Deborah's and Hyacinth's daughters saw me and came over to give me a big hug.
The service was lovely, but I could see and feel the grief her sons and grandchildren were fighting to contain...because I remembered the funeral of my own beloved grandmother just 3 years ago.
I walked with the crowd to the graveside afterwards, but as soon as the coffin was going to be lowered I had to leave to check-in on time to catch my flight back to Barbados (was only in Dominica for 4 hours).
Granny Frederick was just 15 years old when she married Grandpa Frederick (who is 96 now and has lost his soulmate) who was 16 at the time, they were married for 80 YEARS, and had 25 children together...but only 4 of them lived to be adults....a love and commitment to each other has to be INCREDIBLE to survive so much tragedy and grief and remain unbroken...many couples today separate after the loss of only ONE child....personally I can't imagine losing so many children without going insane, the grief of losing ONE child 22 years ago is still too painful for me to recount without reliving the hurt.
On behalf of ALL Eagle Clan Arawaks (Bariria Korobahado Lokono) I offer our sincerest condolences and our collective utmost RESPECT to you Granny Frederick <3

THE NEO-COLONIAL STATE OF MALAYSIA HAS NOW REVEALED ITSELF TO BE AN ADVERSARY & ENEMY OF INDIGENOUS RIGHTS UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW !

The Federal Court today (20 December 2016) gave the Natives of Sarawak a big dent in their long battle to gain rights over their customary lands, particularly to the wider traditional subsistence territories. The decision also has major implications and repercussions on all current and future native title cases in Malaysia.
In its decision in the TR Sandah case in Kuching today, 3 judges in the 4-judge panel ruled that the custom of ‘pemakai menoa’ and ‘pulau’ does not fall within the definition of ‘law’ under Article 160(2) of the Federal Constitution, although they recognize that they exist.
(A fifth judge did not give any decision as he has since retired. The appeal proper was actually heard more than a year ago in September 2015!)
With this decision, the Federal Court is in agreement with the state government that NCR lands is only limited to the temuda land.
Iban land-use terms
The pemakai menoa is the territorial domain held by a distinct (Iban) longhouse and includes farms, gardens, old longhouse sites, fruit groves, cemetery, water and forest within a defined boundary.
Pulau galau refers to the area of primary forest outside the cultivated area, but within the pemakai menoa of the longhouse, and is normally owned by the community.
Temuda refers to farm land left fallow on which there are secondary growths.
Miring ceremony during the appeal hearing.
Background to the case
In 2011 in the Kuching High Court, Tuai Rumah Sandah and 7 others had sued Kanowit Timber Company Sdn Bhd and the state government for encroaching into their NCR land, including their pemakai menoa (territorial domain) vide a timber licence issued by the state government to Kanowit Timber Company Sdn Bhd.
The company had argued that NCR should be restricted to the temuda covering an area of 2,712 hectares, which had been cleared before 1958.
However, Justice Yew ruled in favour of TR Sandah and the others, declaring that they were the rightful owners of the NCR land including the pemakai menoa, and that the company had unlawfully encroached into the Ibans’ land.
The High Court had declared that the Ibans have customary rights and/or native customary rights over the lands.
The court also declared that the company and agents had trespassed on the land and that they be restrained from further trespassing, clearing, using or occupying the Iban’s customary rights land.
The Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the High Court in 2013, after which the state government filed the current appeal.
Review sought
Encroachments by the state government into NCR land have always been a hot issue in Sarawak, with huge areas of NCR land being encroached upon or alienated to others by the state government.
Counsel for the natives, Baru Bian, said that today’s decision “completely finishes off” ten other cases which were won by the landowners at the Court of Appeal, and 20 others pending at the same court.
“It also affects over 100 cases pending in the high courts,” he told reporters after the Federal Court had made its ruling.
The Federal Court decision has also far reaching effects for the Natives in Sabah and the Orang Asli in Semenanjung Malaysia who regard what the authorities call their ‘kawasan rayau’ (roaming areas) as part of the customary territories.
Baru Bian, who is also a PKR state assemblyman, told the large crowd of native peoples in court today that, “Our last hope is applying for a Review of this decision at the Federal Court but before a different Panel of Judges. And we hope that the panel will include judges from Sabah and Sarawak, as they understand our situation better. Our prayer is that God do intervene in this last step. Thank you for praying all this while for us. He has a reason or reasons for this decision for now. God bless us all. God bless the Natives of Sarawak.”
Apart from Baru Bian, the legal team for the Ibans included Simon Siah Sy Gen, Chua Kuan Ching, See Chee How and Dr. Yogeswaran.

EVIDENCE SUPPORTS MY THEORY THAT THE 'TAINO" WERE ORIGINALLY & PREDOMINANTLY LOKONO FROM MAINLAND SOUTH AMERICA

The accepted Taino representation of Yocahu, but they think it is based on the mountain shape

Every one of those pieces of paper above & behind the sacred flame has the photo, name and written prayer for all those I have been asked to pray for, the single candle flame becomes broad and rounded triangular when I am praying for someone who is going to be healed....if their ailment was meant for them to experience and endure no prayer can lift it from the bearer, the Creator's will - will always be done.

'TAINO'...or 'LOKONO'?
There is a good chance my info will be stolen by others who will pretend that they are the sources of this info, but it is worth sharing anyway, one cannot worry about all the dishonest people in the world who like to take credit for your knowledge, or you would say or do nothing and censor yourself.
Here is an insight you might not ever hear from anyone else, but like the Taino, the Lokono traditionally believed in two powerful spiritual entities LONG BEFORE they ever heard of a religion called Christianity (so this good & evil duality was nothing 'new' to us), many books written by Europeans said the Tainos called the good entity 'Yocahu' and they say it was represented by the shape below, and that the inspiration for this shape was the 'sacred mountain'.......but I think they are wrong...for many reasons, firstly, the Taino and Lokono were once the same people over 5,000 years ago (this is why of ALL the native languages on Earth Lokono is closest to Taino), the ones who stayed in the north-east of mainland south America were recognized by Europeans as calling themselves Lokono (they had to, as we are still living culturally intact to this day with Chiefs over our tribal villages and territories).....but the Europeans wrote in books that the ones who settled the islands of the 'Mar del Caribe' (as the Spaniards wrote it) called themselves 'Taino'.....yet Columbus himself said the alleged 'Taino' in the Bahamas called themselves 'Lukayo'....am I the only one who sees that for a European to almost get the phonetic sounding of a foreign language name so close as 'Lukayo' to 'Lokono' is no coincidence....furthermore the 'Lukayo' were able to fluently speak the same 'Taino' language as the Amerindians of the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto-Rico & Jamaica)....but not fluently with the Kalinago of the islands we now call the 'Virgin Islands' to the East of 'Puerto-Rico (a language that is a blend of mainland Kalina 'Carib' and 'Lokono).
NB - Even up to just over 150 years ago people (and ALL through history before) were recording other people's names 'as it sounded to them'...so you could get one chronicler/census scribe (just for example) writing about 'Damond' Corrie, another about 'Daymon Corry', and another about 'Daman Curry' - yet all 3 of them were really talking about ONE man called 'Damon Corrie' (which you might never realize if you did not know that this was the case in those times).
Let me pause here and go over a few additional points:
Traditional Lokonos centuries ago before the arrival of Christian missionaries - called the good entity (the Creator) 'Yowahu' (see how close it is to 'Yocahu' of the 'Tainos') and it was the 'Creator God who dwells in fire', and every major religion has stories of this good God appearing to them as a fire (remember the tongues of fire that descended on to the heads of the disciples when Jesus left them) or IN a fire (remember the burning bush that spoke to Moses)....BUT because Christianity ALSO has this belief about Hell being a 'lake of fire' and the evil God (Christians call Satan) as being a resident of this lake of fire...the first Christians to begin forcibly converting & brainwashing our peoples convinced them that 'all fire is evil' so therefore our 'Creator God who dwelt in fire' must be 'the devil' (and therefore our spirituality was 'pagan' or 'heathen' etc.).....and so the new forcibly brainwashed generation of 'Christianised Lokono' created a new word to use as a name for the Creator God - and they began to call it 'Awa Adayali' which means 'Heavenly father' (which ANYONE can see was inspired by Christian indoctrination - as they like to refer to the Creator God as their 'Heavenly father')....only the Lokono who still follow our ancient ancestral spirituality will tell you these things, because only we know these secrets passed down by oral tradition, the 'Christianised Lokono' of today will tell you now that 'Yocahu' is Satan or some Evil being; and only 'Awa Adayahuli' is the 'true' name for God....forgive them for they know not what they say or do anymore, such 'imitation Europeans' have they become after centuries of Church control over their minds....I challenge them to heal on-the-spot even a simple thing like nasal congestion (even my teen aged daughter can do that) - if what I say is false - and what they say is true...the Creator will show who has access to his power and who does not by a live demonstration - for actions speak louder than words.
Furthermore, no Lokono elder I have EVER spoken to has EVER referred to 'Tainos', they always talked about 'What the Europeans did to our people in the islands' - and they will shed tears talking about it to this day.... how the Spaniards (admitted to by their OWN records) fed our babies alive to their Mastiff dogs among other heinous atrocities (as Grandfather Cuthbert Simon did on many occasions with me).....it is not traditional Lokono who have artificially divided our people into 'Taino' and 'Lokono'...it was Europeans...but more and more Tainos are realizing this when they listen to the facts I offer them that no-one else is.
I am also going to tell you that the mountain is NOT the shape represented in the triple round ended 'triangular' representations & effigies of Yocahu....it is the shape that is taken on by the sacred flame when you (as a follower of traditional Lokono spirituality) use pure Tobacco (Yuri) to pray for the higher good or healing of others...your single flame splits into 3 and then merges into this shape 'when the Creator's presence is with you for the duration of your prayers' (then you know the next day you will get news that whatever good you prayed for for others has come to pass)....remember too, Yowahu is the 'Creator God who dwells in fire'...not 'the Creator God who dwells in the Mountain'...although all significant geographical features are considered sacred.
Additionally, I will tell you - as further examples of how many 'Taino' words and names that are actually Lokono words or have Lokono origins:
Bahaya ('Bahamas') = 'dangerous place' (if you were like our people and had to navigate the almost annually hurricane-prone seas of the Bahamas in a canoe barely much higher than the waves every Hurricane season (which covered about half of every year). Columbus ALSO said the natives of the Bahamas told him they were sometimes attacked by tribes (maybe Tekesta?) coming from the direction of what we now call Florida - and many showed him terrible scar wounds on their bodies from surviving these attacks.
Tikahanali ('Guanahani') = 'Place where people have drowned', this is how we name places for posterity up to this day, for whatever noteworthy occurred there...on Pakuri Lokono Territory in Guyana today for example there is an otherwise unremarkable area on the Savanna we call 'Bruk-pot'...why? Because broken pottery was found there...that is all, but it was noteworthy enough to become the new name EVERYONE forever after referred to this place....so you can see why Tikahanali island got it's name....just like how hunters once saw a place on Pakuri LONG AGO that had a huge herd of deer - so the hunter named the place 'Koyara-Kobani' - which means 'Deer Farm'...but go there now and you might never see a single deer...still, the name given to it from a noteworthy event ONCE long ago has remained forever.
Aiti ('Haiti') = 'a place of sorrow' (the new name we gave to this area after the first massacres of us by Spaniards...and it certainly has remained a magnet of misfortune for everyone from that time to now, the French were right when they said they 'gave the land back it's native name'...they just had no clue what the word 'Aiti' means in our language.....it would be better if they changed the name now....they are literally keeping a name that literally means 'a place of sorrow' and it has been self-fulfilling to that name ever since.
Kamunaika (Jamaica - which Spanish speakers pronounce as 'Hamaika' anyway) - it means 'A place that has no riches' (such as Gold for example - which as you know the Spaniards were obsessed and always asking us about and where they could find it).
Hamaka (Hammock)
Kanoa (Dug out tree trunk wooden Canoe)
Hikori (Jicotea - pronounced 'Hikotea' by Spanish speakers anyway) Tortoise/Turtle
Iwana (Iguana - still pronounced 'Iwana' by some Spanish speakers) the large terrestrial or arboreal edible lizard.
Siba-lokoni (Ciboney) which means 'people who live in caves', the 'Ciboney' did not call themselves this name, it was the name the Lokonos who encountered cave dwelling humans called them (since Lokono build their own houses and never lived in caves).
Bimichi (Kolibri) which means Hummingbird.
Konaino ('Taino') it just means 'natives' (as in 'the first people living in this place')
Bahioho = traditional village or town, one house is a 'Bahi' not a 'Bohio'

Semi (not Zemi) - it just means a holy object, and a Semichichi is a 'holy man' or 'Shaman'

It is ALSO worthy to note that UNLIKE most Amazonian tribes, the Lokono always had a traditional hereditary leadership system, where ONE family led the village by birthright (but not strictly father-to-son, it could be father to brother or uncle to nephew as well etc. the main thing that someone that exhibited the necessary qualities & spiritual gifts from childhood - who was willing, popular and able from one related bloodline - was always the leader of the people.....as it was with my own maternal ancestors from my Great grandmothers father - the last Hereditary Chief of our particular Clan of Lokono (the Eagle Clan/Bariria Korobahado) back through time for centuries before.
The Taino ALSO kept this Hereditary system of leadership that was the way of the Lokono.

Even the very name of the 'Caribbean' is from the Lokono word WE use to describe it...'Kairibe' (phonetic rendering = Ka-ree-bay) which literally means 'The islands'....and we ALL know that the Spanish pronounce 'Caribe' phonetically as 'Ka-ree-bay'..so when you see an old Spanish map that says 'Mar del Caribe' - it DOES not mean 'Sea of the Carib'...it just means Sea of 'the islands'.
Kairi = One island, Kairibe meaning 'Islands'...you pluralize a non human noun by adding the suffix 'be' (pronounced 'bay') in the Lokono language.....but you pluralize a human noun by adding the suffix 'no'...hence one person of our tribe is a Loko (which means 'person'), but more than one person of our tribe is 'Lokono' (which means 'people' or 'the people' if referring to the whole tribe).
It is my belief and understanding that YES the Lokono who migrated into the Kairi-be (islands) did encounter and incorporate new words when they intermarried and absorbed 'Ciboney' women into their own culture, we also know they traded with Central American and North American tribes (so no reason that they did not intermarry with them too) for thousands of years - so lots of room for the Genetic and linguistic additions/changes we see to the original Loko language by the time European Spaniards came after 1492 and wrote down ALL the 'Taino' info you read today in historical sources....no 'Taino' wrote any of it....so why are some people fiercely defending European assumptions and 2nd/3rd/4th hand records as if they are '100% true and accurate'....and attacking me for simply saying 'yes you changed somewhat after you left the main body of our people in Amazonia 5,000 years ago, but you are STILL more closely related to LOKONO than any other people alive - genetically AND linguistically.....it is you who are perpetuating the separation and mental & cultural distancing of yourselves from your roots, not us. To US you will always be our brothers, sisters & cousins, the 'Island Lokono' who told the Spaniards you were Konaino ('the natives') of the islands... but the Spaniards wrote the word they thought they heard you say as 'Taino' instead.
Some argue that 'Taino' is the real name, and it means 'good people'....but my argument is ' I have NEVER heard of another tribe in all of Amazonia who's name for themselves - when translated into English means anything other than 'the people'....it IS possible such a self description as 'good people' exists...I am just telling you it would be the exception to the rule (and I never heard such as yet in all my travels throughout Amazonia). Every person in every tribe tends to think to themselves in their own minds that their own tribe are good or 'better human beings' than other tribes....but we do not actually give that official name to ourselves so it seems unlikely....that is all I am saying.
I do not have the time or space to give you any more facts to support my argument that Taino are really modified/advanced Lokono here, it will be in the book I am writing, and no idea when it will become available so don't ask me.

A NEUTRAL ASSESSMENT OF ALL THE FACTS (WHICH WE ARE NOT SHOWN IN WESTERN MEDIA) ACTUALLY PROVES THAT CHINA DOES IN FACT HAVE THE MOST VALID HISTORICAL CLAIM TO THE SOUTH CHINA SEA

CHECK OUT THE SENSATIONALIST HEADLINES FED TO US:

South China Sea: Satellite images appear to show weapons systems on artificial islands

Updated about 4 hours ago
China appears to have installed weapons, including anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems, on all seven of the artificial islands it has built in the South China Sea, a US think tank says, citing new satellite imagery.

JUST LOOK AT THE RECENT ANTI CHINA HEADLINES ABOVE, THE AGENDA IS TO PORTRAY CHINA AS THE 'WAR-MONGERING AGGRESSOR' IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA, BUT WHICH COUNTRY HAS INVADED OTHER COUNTRIES NOT LESS THAN ONCE EVERY DECADE FOR THE LAST CENTURY? IT WAS THE USA - NOT CHINA!

ACTUALLY ......as it turns out CHINA does actually have THE most valid historical claim to the South China Sea...and this is what William Johnson (retired U.S Air Force Officer and retired Foreign Service Offer reveals...not some 'pro-China propagandist')....so don't believer the anti-China version you are being conditioned to believe in nightly western media news broadcasts:
China's claim to the South China Sea is based on HISTORY - dating back to records (of what was viewed as Chinese territory) from the Xia Dynasty (c. 2070 – c. 1600 BC) GOING BACK OVER 4,000 YEARS!
In more recent times, the nine-dash line that was advanced by Chiang Kai Shek in 1947. During this pre-communist Republican era China mapped, surveyed and named 291 islands and reefs in the region.
The United States contends that the South China Sea is International water, and sovereignty in the area should be determined by the United Nations Convention on Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS).
UNCLOS states that countries cannot claim sovereignty over any land masses that are submerged at high tide, or that were previously submerged but have been raised above high tide level by construction.
The floor of the South China Sea may contain massive oil and natural gas reserves. Sovereignty over the region could give China (the worlds most populous country) a level of ENERGY SECURITY and ENERGY INDEPENDENCE far beyond what it currently possesses.
(Damon Corrie asks - Is this not in China's legitimate 'National best interests'? Or is that a mandate/patriotic excuse only permitted to predominantly white countries?)
Who has built what? Island building in the South China Sea, and construction on existing islands, has been going on for decades, primarily by Vietnam (on 21 islands) and the Philippines (on 8 islands). Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines have all stationed military forces on at least some of their islands.
Vietnam has fortified several islands with rocket artillery launchers capable of striking China's holdings across the region, and it has also begun dredging work on the disputed 'Ladd Reef' (yet curiously this fact has NOT been reported in the media which gives us the impression of 'unilateral Chinese aggression' ad-nasuem).
China has in fact come late to the island building game, BUT China's efforts have been on a scale never before seen in the region.
China has added more than 3,20 acres (1,300 hectares) of land on seven different features in the South China Sea - and built runways, ports, aircraft hangers and communications facilities according to U.S estimates from satellite imagery.
What is the U.S response to the dispute?
The Unites States had virtually NO response to the previous building done by Vietnam and the Philippines OR ANY OTHER NATION in the South China Sea, but has vigorously OPPOSED all China's efforts....and the USA has stated "It will use it's aircraft and naval vessels to 'assert freedom' of navigation in the region' as demonstrated by by the 2015 passage of the USS Forth Worth Combat ship, and the flight by a U.S navy P-8 Poseidon surveillance aircraft OVER the Chinese construction at Fiery Reef.
Beyond 'freedom of navigation' missions, the United States is focused on strengthening regional allies. To do so it will help boost it's allies intelligence gathering (against China) and surveillance capabilities (against China), and provide them with updated military hardware to counter China's technical advantages in both quantity and quality.

(Damon Corrie asks - so who is really provoking whom in this ever escalating scenario? China? or the USA? Ask yourself that now that you have ALL the facts).
